Lagomkrisen: svenskt par öppnar deli, hela ön kan inte sluta äta

Swedish couple opens deli. Now the whole island can't stop eating.

Our reporter went in with full protection suit. He came out with a toast. "It was worth it," he says.

It was supposed to be lagom. Now it has gone way too far.

A Swedish couple, Frida and Martin, opened a deli on the main road of Ko Lanta, Thailand. Cheese, charkuteries, cold wine and bread with a real crust. Now the whole island can not stop eating.

Aftonbrödet is on the place. And what we see is shocking.

“I came here for to relax. Now I go there two times per day. It is totally sick, honestly.”

Bengt, 61, from Västerås

In the queue we meet a German couple. They put their towels on the sun loungers at 07:00 so they can stand in the deli queue in peace.

Is this the end of lagom? Aftonbrödet asked the experts. The experts were also in the queue.

Ko Lanta economy collapses six days a week, recovers on Mondays

KO LANTA, Thailand (AP) - Household savings on Ko Lanta fell for the sixth day running on Sunday, then rebounded sharply on Monday, repeating a pattern economists say they have watched since 2023 without being able to explain.

The swings track the opening hours of a single delicatessen on the main road at Long Beach. When it is open, 10:00 to 19:00, residents spend. On Mondays, when it is closed, bank balances stabilise and several people report remembering why they came to the island.
